Well it’s been a bit since I posted. Lots of commitments this fall have been keeping me busy so I figured I better get a few posts out I’ve had in the hopper. Dug this one out from a few months back so I will try to remember some details. We’ll call it “Defend the Pass”.

My buddy Blake and I played a Bolt Action game using Scenario 11: Little Saturn from the Case Blue Campaign book. We reskinned it to be where his Americans were attempting to take a pass somewhere in Italy 1943 by occupying two bunkers and a HQ. We modified a few of the rules to fit my board and proceeded.

The Germans occupied a mountainous valley with two bunkers and many fortified positions. The Germans were using an old barn as a HQ. The American forces had engineers with flamethrowers and could outflank on one side as well as conducting a frontal assault. My Germans, who had half the points, were able to place a few minefields (two real/ two dummies dummy) somewhere to deter them as well as having fortified positions throughout my area.

The game was a tense battle. The Germans took a beating during the Americans preliminary bombardment, but were able to stall the Americans for a bit on the road with well-placed minefields, good fields of fire from an incredibly ineffective machine gun and some well-placed AT gun rounds. It seemed to be going pretty well for the Germans until the damn broke on the frontline and multiple squads broke through the flank on the mountain.

It was a fun game and the Americans ultimately won taking two of the bunkers. Fun game with lots of challenges for both sides.

That is a really nice looking game! 🙂 Impressive mountain terrain!
