Battle of Bastogne Table – Part 1 of 2 “Staged Pictures”

As promised this yearโ€™s big Battle of Bastogne table. Part 1 of 2- “Staged pictures”. Before we get to the โ€œactionโ€ shots from the actual day of the game, I played around with a bunch of staged shots of the board before and after the game. Iโ€™ll post the others later this week.

The board itself is 4 ft x 10 ft. Made up of three 2×4 panels and one 4×4 panel for a little flexibility in modulation. Two of the panels are 1 ยฝโ€ polystyrene foamboard the two woods ones are made of some old OSB panels I had as previous terrain boards and textured over. The snow was made with sculptamold, white primer, flex paste, white spray paint and woodland scenics snow flake flock. The buildings are a mix of fdm prints, mdf kits, and scratch built. The models are a mix of my armies and my friends Ben and Evan. (Thank you gentlemen for the loan of troops!)

The deciduous trees are variety of woodland scenic armatures with rubberized horsehair. The pines are a mix of various kits. I reflocked most of them. The tall trees I prepped dowels by either scoring them or the newer ones I actually caked in a glue grout mix and wiped some off to add texture. Sprayed a couple times with black, browns and grays and drybrushed. Added some small twigs for broken branches and added more flock to the branches. Attached with hot glue at various heights.

On the wood OSB boards that formed mot of the wooded section I drilled holes to take the trees off the board easily. The foamboard sections I have them attached with small nails inserted into their bases by drilling and adding hot glue.

The broken trees were easy. Just snap and rip apart painted dowels as needed. The snow on the buildings is a flex paste/ woodland scenic flock mix. Iโ€™m sure there are some things Iโ€™m missing, but those are the main components of the build.

Coming up next time a photo dump of pics of the big game day so you can see how it all played out.
