Brush & Sand: Part 3

Let’s talk about kit. I settled on the Battlefoam PACK 160 and cut in half some troop trays as I didn’t have the proper size trays on hand. I put a V notch in some of the foam walls to allow the dropper bottles to lay down in the foam. The front pouch of the PACK 160 fit the monument Hobbies brush case nicely and one of the side pouches holds two of the Turbo Dork silicone palettes. I picked up a nice clear travel shampoo bottle from the PX as a back up water pot. Normally I will cut a water bottle in half, but you never know and for the 99 cents I thought it was a prudent pick up.

Painters can get opinionated about their brushes. For some time now I strongly prefer the Scale 75 Luxury Kolinsky Tajmyr Sable brushes. They are now out of production and I have yet to try the replacement brushes for them.  The reason I like them so much is they have a good belly holding a lot of paint without going into the flute and a good belly helps prevent your paint from drying on the brush. Additionally, these brushes hold a tip better than any brushed I have ever used. Unmatched accuracy and 90% less brush licking!

I ordered a painting handle set from a Kickstarter way back. I quickly discovered these handles are simply chair leg ends from Lowes. Pull out the threaded rod and add a magnet, drill some holes in a 4×4 and boom you are done. I do enjoy some the commercially available painting handles with the Red Grass painting handle being my favorite. The painting handles are not an absolute necessity so they were sent in the first care package.

I mentioned the OttLite in an earlier post and lastly, we have the magnifying glasses. I resisted getting a pair of these at first and now I have two. I was afraid my hand eye coordination was going to be off using these, but no depth perception issues at all.

I had planned on ordering small folding table and office chair but I have moved to a new location. My room has a desk and I have my own sink! Lets keep our fingers crossed I never get a room mate.
