Battlegroup Pacific – Battle Report. Turns 4-5

TURN 4: USMC

USMC rolls up only 7 orders, not ideal. Will have to make some hard decisions on what units to activate.

Fwd observer passes comms check, calls in spotting round. Rolls a 1 for deviation = 4D6 inches in random direction. This will hit our own troops, so its called off.

LVT4 on the flank, top speed order. Trying to close the distance before unloading Marines.

Zippo moves and fires HE trying to pin the HMG dug-out. No luck as its a 3+ cover save.

MMG tries to pin Fwd HQ again….

USMC Fwd HQ moves up from board edge for a better view.

LVT4 moves up and unloads Aimed MG fire at the HMG dug-out, 5 hits, 1 dead, and PINNED!

USMC decides to rally, rolls up a (4) and unpins all its units. Chit drawn is a (3). END OF USMC TURN 4. USMC BR is down to 15 now


TURN 4: IJA

IJA rolls up with 12 orders, plenty, but won’t be able to use them all.

Ha-Go does some serious damage with MG’s. Wipes out the last Marine with bazooka, chews up the other squad.

USMC draws Air Attack chit for next turn. Needs a 5+ to show up.

Knee mortars Pin the LVT! Gives the second volley a try on the Sherman, no luck!

Rifle squad on ambush, awaiting more infantry

The other Ha-Go takes an AP shot at the LVT. Rolled a 5, needed a 6……so close!

Fwd HQ, manages to pick off another marine. Last man sticks around.

IJA chooses not to rally. END OF TURN 4.


TURN 5: USMC

USMC rolls up 8 orders. But first…….See if the Air Attack materializes! need a 5+ on a D6, and they get a 5!

  • Rolled up a Corsair with 5″ rockets! He targets one of the dug in Ha-Go’s and obliterates it!
  • Chit drawn for the destroyed Ha-go is another air attack chit, this time for IJA next turn possibly.
  • This special chit draw, triggers IJA special rule “Glory of the Emperor” which gives them a free “Beyond the Call of Duty” test.
  • The first time any side is attacked with aircraft, they draw a chit as well. Due to the demoralizing affect on the ground troops.
  • HMG passes BTCOD test (they’re elite so its a 2+) and mows down the last man of the 4man fire team. Fails to spot the other fire team for second attempt.
  • Two orders are burned up by failed comms checks from the USMC Fwd observer, and Fwd HQ. Ouch! no mortars this turn.

Zippo moves up and Hoses the HMG dugout. Unit is toasted, Two chits need to be drawn. One for unit loss, and one for shock value of the Flamethrower. Of course they draw another special (arty ammo low) chit……
this triggers yet another BTCOD test for IJA!

Ha-go passes the test, opens fire at the 5man team and MMG team in front of him. 5man unit is finished off!

MMG passes BTCOD test and gets a free action. Opens fire on the Fwd HQ. Chalks up two more kills.

Flanking LVT4 full of troops, Pins the LMG squad in ambush.

Foot patrol team joins in on the fight and pins the Rifle squad in ambush!

Recon jeep moves and fires at the pinned LMG squad. no luck.

MMG moves 10″ out of LOS of the Ha-Go

USMC decides to risk it and rally. BR is getting low, but they really need the pinned LVT4 to get moving. its the only unit pinned too. Chit draw is a (1)! gamble pays off. unless it gets pinned again next turn…..

USMC BR =10, IJA BR= 13


TURN 5:IJA

IJA rolls up 8 orders with 5 reinforcements.

IJA Air attack chit comes in with a 5+. Rolls up a Zero with MG’s and Autocannon. Fires at Zippo Sherman (autocannon AP) but misses! USMC take a chit for being attacked by airplane. Chit is (3). 7BR for USMC left!

Ha-Go puts a round thru the side armor of the pinned LVT4. Destroyed! Chit is a (2). Tries 2nd shot at Sherman but fails to spot.

HQ Squad inside sherman takes D3 casualties. 3 dead. Automatically pinned and bail within 4″ of wrecked LVT4.

Knee mortars successfully pin the other LVT4 and Recon Jeep.

Reinforcements move up from table edge.
