Battlegroup Pacific – Battle Report. Turns 2-3

Turn 2: USMC

USMC rolls up 13 orders, which is plenty, and starts out with an off table medium mortar barrage.

Forward Observer passes comms check, calls in mortars at the crossroads, deviates 10″ but still in a very good spot. Proceeds with the mortar strike.

Direct hits on the light howitzer and LMG squads. Light howitzer is abandoned and draws a chit (2).

  • MMG team opens up on the rifle squad in the open. Chews them to pieces! uses second shots to suppress another unit but fails.
  • IJA artillery low ammo chit pulled, on a 2+ D6 roll they run out, and ….they do. This is a devastating turn of events for the IJA.
  • IJA has to pull another chit for loss of artillery, it’s a (2)

Bazooka opens fire. grazes the turret. Tank crew keeps it together

LVT moves up and unloads two fire teams.

5man fire team moves up and wipes out the pinned squad finally.

Recon jeep tries and fails to suppress LMG team across the field.

END OF TURN 2 for USMC.

Turn 2: IJA

Current map of turn 2. IJA to activate next.

TURN 2: IJA 9 orders rolled up. IJA Artillery has run out of ammunition, which is very fortunate for the USMC.

Bazooka team and Ha-Go duking it out yet again. A single marine holds on!

HMG discards their ambush for an Open Fire order, mows down this unit. Chit pull is a (5) for the Marines.

The other Ha-Go tries some suppressing MG fire, no luck.

IJA LMG squad manages to suppress the recon jeep across the field

  • Forward HQ, without artillery now, tries to suppress the oncoming Marines, no luck either.
  • End of turn rally, rolls a 6. All remaining units unpinned. (knee mortars + rifle squad) Chit pull is a (2).

End of Turn Battle Ratings. USMC=18, IJA=22

Turn 3: USMC

USMC rolls up 9 orders, and rolls a 5 for reinforcement units to come on from the board edge.

  • Forward observer passes comms check, calls in mortars, but for Harassing fire this time. This affects a larger (15″ vs 10″) area from center point. Drawback is you have to re-roll direct hits.
  • 4 Pinning checks are rolled, 1 for every unit in the bubble. Dug in Ha-Go gets pinned on a 6, with a failed cover save.

LVT4 reinforcement comes on from table edge, full of troops, and flamethrower.

LVT moves up and tries to suppress HMG, no luck

Zippo sherman comes on, hauling ass!

MMG tries to suppress FWD HQ in the jungle line, no luck.

5man team suppresses HQ, and uses 2nd shots to try and pin the HMG. The shots are shrugged off as they are very well protected in the dug-out.

  • 4man team pours fire into the HMG dug-out. Manages to pin it. This is HUGE.
  • USMC decides not to rally to save Battle Rating. Only two units pinned, not bad.
  • END OF USMC TURN 3

TURN 3: IJA

IJA Rolls up 8 orders. Not ideal, but many units are pinned and can’t activate anyways.

Ha-Go opens fire at 5man team instead of bazooka for once. Manages to pick one off, and pins the unit.

Knee mortars finally put some rounds down range. They fail miserably.

  • Fwd HQ opens up on the 4man team in front of them. 2 dead, and pins the unit! very lucky!
  • Rifle squad moves up to better secure objective.
  • LMG squad goes on ambush for approaching LVT4
  • IJA decides to Rally, rolls well and unpins all its units (3). Chit drawn is a (1)
    END OF TURN 3

To be continued……
