I recently got my hands on two sprues from the new Warlord US Army Winter Platoon. Generally I’m pretty picky about multipart plastic kits. I really prefer a good metal mini or 3d print, especially for copious amounts of riflemen. That said, I think this kit is really good. It has a lot of good arm options for the weapons and gear you’d expect to find on an American GI in the cold winter of 1944-45.

I quickly set to work on stuff I needed for my ongoing project. I made up one Senior Leader for Chain of Command, which calls for a carbine. I quickly found the slung carbine arm and the map arm were the same (left) arm in the kit. So on the first mini out came a M1 Carbine from the USMC kit and some greenstuff for a sling. That one was on me, I had a vision and it didn’t work with the kit. I then took a more careful look over the kit and assembled two NCOs with SMGs plus nine additional riflemen.

Overall fitment was good with the kit, leaving minimal gaps in arm-to-body joints for me to fill. The belt gear went on a bit better than my previous experience with Warlord kits as well. The sculpts that come out of it have good character and there’s enough variety on the sprue that someone could easily use up two full boxes of this or more with no repeated poses (thankfully no prone body sculpt here!). Overall I think this is a great box, and I can’t wait for my full one to arrive because the ones I have painted up great! If you’re interested in a painting guide for this kit, I just completed one here.
