Initially I wrote my goals down for the Table’s Edge Instagram and Facebook accounts but seeing as we started this blog I figured I’d add them here with the updates as of late February. Hobby goals keep me motivated and focused. Last year I planned to have a lot more hobby time on my hands than actually happened. This year I set some more focused goals to take advantage of the time I do have. My main effort for 2023 is going to be WWII Eastern Front. With that in mind I am planning on expanding my Soviet Rifle platoon, Winter German Heer platoon, and adding a new 1940-1942 German Heer platoon with some support. They will be used for Bolt Action and Chain of Command.
While my interest in modern wargaming has been tempered somewhat, I am still keen to continue painting and modeling the era. What that will be for 2023, well, I am not sure. As such (I think this is one of my favorite writing phrases now) I am leaving a goal spot open for a project that catches my hobby spark. I am being tempted by Urban Scatter Gamings terrain dressings. They are definitely getting my creative and narrative juices going.
I have also backed the Modern Minis EU Humvee Kick Starter. Faris, the sculptor and owner, has been kicking out a lot of value for the kick starter with loads of kit options. Again, I could see myself doing up a little mounted patrol of some type and maybe a new opfor, possibly from my planned “Generic Baddies” project bin.
I like to set a goal for games played as it gives me a slight push to play some more games. Drew and I are still working through our Bolt Action Stalingrad campaign so that will yield some more games. I am also scheduled to play in a local Adepticon Prep event at Adventure Games in Oshkosh. And of course I am playing in the actual Adepticon Doubles event in Mid-March with Evan. That should give me a good start towards my Bolt Action game quota. Evan and I are also playing in the Malaya Chain of Command participation game at Adepticon. The convention should be a great way to charge up, heck even supercharge, my hobby mojo.
So without further adieu; my hobby goals!
WWII

◦ Three support choices for Soviet CoC Platoon
– T-34/76 finished!
– Two more support choices to go. I have a few half done and a few planned. I hope to get to them after Adepticon.

◦ Finish Winter German Heer CoC Platoon
⁃ HQ Squad. I need a Senior Leader with sub machine gun and his wrecking crew of three rifle grenadiers with panzerfausts.
⁃ Volksgrenadier Rifle Squad. I need a few submachine gunners and an MG42 team plus some riflemen. Also two more panzerfausts.
⁃ Panzershrek team. Support choice but also integrated into some late war platoons.
⁃ Two additional support choices. Still undecided but I have a 7.5 cm le.IG 18 infantry gun and a PAK 40 in my bin.

◦ Finish Blitzkrieg/ Barbarossa CoC Platoon – At the time of writing, 30 of 40 minis are completed and the rest are on their way.
⁃ Two support choices. I will be starting with the two Adepticon support choices, the 8 Rad armored car and Panzerjager 1 tank destroyer. I am also contemplating the almost required sustained fire MG34 team. It makes me very happy medium machineguns have a place in Chain of Command, unlike their near impotence in Bolt Action.
Modern
◦ One small modern project. To be determined.
Games Played

◦ 8 Games of Chain of Command
◦ 10 Games of Bolt Action
As it is late February, I already have a good crack on the year. Time to keep the hobby wheels turning!

You don’t want to play even one game of Spectre Operations?! This is madness. Or are you just waiting to see what the deal is with Asymmetric Warfare – the new ruleset being developed by the creator of the Spectre Operations ruleset?
By the way, I love those painted miniatures.

Thanks Chris! I am pretty happy with how they all turned out.
RE: the moderns, I probably will at some point. I just have to find something to inspire me and make me want to play. I’m a little stuck on it at the moment.
I am very interested to see what Asymmetric Warfare brings. I have very high hopes and love that the developers communicate openly with the community.
I am also interested to see what Spectre Operations V3 looks like when it gets released. It’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

That’s great to hear. Do you think someone on the Iron Dice Gaming crew will review the Asymmetrical Warfare ruleset when it officially releases? Not necessarily a primer on how to play (unless you wanted to do that too! :-D), but at least a comparison of AW to Spectre Operations.
I don’t have much experience playing the games. I’ve been focused more on painting my miniatures, plus I don’t know anyone locally who plays. Regardless, I do own the Spectre Operations ruleset that is no longer available for purchase and I’d love to know the pros & cons of each ruleset as they relate to each other, if that’s possible.
I should probably hold off asking such things until the Asymmetric Warfare ruleset is released. 🙂

I would imagine we will take a look at comparing it as Spectre is one of our main modern rules. I am interested to see where Matt and crew take Asymmetrical Warfare, if it keeps going the way it seems to be I could see it being a mainstay for our modern rules roster.
I would be interested in a pros and cons but I’m not sure who would want to listen to me blabber!
