I am a firm believer that setting goals and memorializing them is the best way to will those goals into results. This hobby is wonderful, but can also be overwhelming, especially if you lack impulse control with your purchases.
To that end, the following are my immediate, medium, and long term goals for 2025 and beyond.
Immediate Goals
BLKOUT is my immediate goal. My chosen faction is Boone, but because of how it rolled out I actually started with the BLKLST expansion. Those are currently primed and highlighted. The next step for them will be Army painter Speed Paints to establish a baseline, and I will see what I want to add from there. I will then build the Boone Force and paint them with the same techniques. The goal here is to spend approximately 1 hour per miniature to get a finished product.
The other immediate goal is to finish up my Grey Knights. I have Grandmaster Voldus and two librarians to finish. I can’t say that my army is finished, but they are to a tabletop standard at least.
Medium Goals (1-9 months)
There are a couple of things at play here. The first thing is a Death Korps of Krieg force. The new figures look amazing, and that coupled with the sci-fi tanks they have with an “inelegant” amount of guns, has captured my imagination. The plan with this force is twofold. 1. I will be coordinating with a buddy to do a combined display board, with the ambition of entering a doubles even at next year’s Adepticon. 2. I bought a course done by The Feral Painter through the Grimdark Compendium. I will use this as a starting point for my scheme, and to take inspiration on possible kitbashes or embellishments.
The other medium goal is Orks, but this would more accurately be described as an all the time/as needed goal. The great thing about Orks is that there really are no rules for them. If I want to paint them grimdark, cool. If I want my Squighog boys to be painted like Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, that works too. These are going to be my palette cleanser between and/or amongst other projects if I just need a change of pace.
Long Term Goals (9-24 months)
Star Wars Legion – I was gifted the original trilogy starter set for Christmas. Star Wars was/is my first sci-fi love. I will be building up the Imperials, which will help me to develop my skills of painting white , specifically Stormtrooper armor.
Space Wolves – The Space Wolves were my first army, but I couldn’t get over the modeling for the old models, and that their decorations all looked like lucky rabbits feet. The release of new models and the army box has piqued my interest in them again.
Stormcast Eternals- I lucked into a Skaventide box at this years Adepticon. I have been intrigued by AoS for a while, but was more committed to 40K. This luck will let me check the fantasy flip side of 40k.
Right now it’s a mountain of grey plastic, but little by little the plan is to change that. This is the next, first step.

Sounds like a plan, Josh! 🙂 As far as minis are concerned, I have no idea what impulse control is! 😉
